The hamlet of Purdys in North Salem - Today
The Town of North Salem is located in the northeastern corner of Westchester County, New York. North Salem encompasses just over 23 square miles and is noted for its open lands, lakes, reservoirs, and many horse farms. Some 50 miles north of New York City, the town has a population of around 5200 (at last census). The town contains the hamlets and villages of: Croton Falls, in the northwest corner of North Salem; Grants Corner, in the southeast of North Salem, the hamlet of North Salem, in the western part of town, Purdy's, a hamlet south of Croton Falls in the western part of North Salem; Salem Center, which lies at the eastern end of the Titicus Reservoir; the hamlet of Twin Lakes Village which lies in the southern part of the town; and Peach Lake.

North Salem borders Putnam County to the north and Connecticut to the east. For an easy commute into Manhattan's Grand Central Station, North Salem has two MTA Metro-North train stations, one is located in Croton Falls and the other in Purdys at 85 Titicus Road (I-684 and Route 116) just 46 miles from Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.

Academically, North Salem ranks one of the highest in the nation for public schools. North Salem High School has been awarded the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence.

North Salem offers wonderful outdoor activities including; Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden incorporating indigenous plantings with popular and rare Japanese and Chinese specimens; Mountain Lakes Park where you can enjoy boating, camping, cross-country skiing, fishing, or a good walk or hike followed by a picnic. Also available are two golf courses; one private and one semi-private.

North Salem is also home to the Titicus Reservoir, where you can enjoy some terrific fishing. Fish species include: largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, brown trout, carp, and chain pickerel.
